Happy Launch Day

Happy Launch Day

It is with great excitement that Hermits’ Handcrafts initiates its online store launch. We look forward to a long happy association with all those who enjoy the art and practice of handcrafted work. Hermit’s Handcrafts currently specializes in the creation of stained glass pieces. However, our co-founders, Ian and Nalda, have a breadth of interests. As such, we hope that as we grow, so will the variety of objects we offer.

Hermits’ Handcrafts is a product both of the times and the individuals who created it. Nalda began work in stained glass before Ian was even born. However, many of Ian’s early memories contain images of the stained glass pieces his mother created in their suburban Arizona home.

It was only amid the COVID pandemic, when Nalda returned to her love for visual art, that the seed of what has become Hermits’ Handcrafts began to grow. Both mother and son struggled during the pandemic shutdown to make sense of this change in life. Neither of the co-founders of Hermits’ Handcrafts struggled with the necessity of distancing from others. However, the time offered by the pandemic allowed each to explore their true values and how they were altered by the ongoing changes in their daily lives. As such we have begun this endeavor as a way of exploring and sharing our love for things that too seem a bit out of step with modern life.

In a time in which so many things are created with a mind toward efficiency, profit, and automation, the love we at Hermits’ Handcrafts have for products of quality, authenticity, and texture appears to be antiquated. We launched our online shop in an attempt to draw closer to our authentic values while also offering you the opportunity to be a part of our journey.

Hermits’ Handcrafts isn’t for everyone. It is a place for those who love playful, colorful, rich, and challenging creations that have been aggressively handmade. We intentionally launched our store with pieces that make the items and the processes we love available to all. Although we may grow to include larger, more complex, and expensive pieces, it is with intention that we begin with simple objects of beauty that are beyond the reach of none. For us, we must remain true to the notion that beauty is for all who see it.

Everyone who enters the marketplace has a wish to be financially successful. However, rather than limit ourselves to producing only the pieces that can make us the most profit, we look to offer a balance. In a world where so many are looking to get rich, those of us at Hermits Handcrafts are committed to the dying belief that one should earn a living and not seek to make a killing.

Kind Regards,

Ian and Nalda
